| Dear Lordie, Never lose sight of Jesus this Thursday.
Praying for you,
Bo Sanchez
| create beauty ! “Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with great power and glory.” – Luke 21:27 God’s inspiration can happen at unexpected and otherwise inconvenient moments. I was “savoring” the bumpy road while back-riding a tricycle to a mission when I saw the marvelous skies and beautiful clouds. I suddenly became oblivious of the road, was reminded of the Scripture passage above and was inspired to write a song. The song is entitled, “I Want to See.” I want to see what lies behind the heavens / I want to see what lies beyond the clouds / I want to see You Lord, in all Your power and glory / I want to see Your face, gaze on Your beauty forever / I want to feel the joy of saints and angels / I want to feel the zeal of endless praise / I want to see His joy throughout all people / I want to feel His love among all men / I want to see, I want to feel, I want to be with You! What about you? What are the beautiful (and inconvenient) things around you inspiring you to do? Obey this urge to create beauty and to do good. (Note: this song is included in my album, You Brought Me Joy!)Obet Cabrillas (kpreacherobet@gmail.com) REFLECTION: No one ever got blind or got blurred vision by looking at the brighter side of life. Lord, let me taste and see Your goodness every day of my life. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING The Day of Judgment will not be a nice experience for those who have neglected their faith and lived selfish lives. Our fate rests upon our own decision to embrace the grace of God. Of course, salvation is God’s gift to us, but like any other gift offered to us, we must choose to accept or reject it. Revelation 18:1-2, 21-23; 19:1-3, 9a 1 I, John, saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth became illumined by his splendor. 2 He cried out in a mighty voice: “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great. She has become a haunt for demons. She is a cage for every unclean spirit, a cage for every unclean bird, a cage for every unclean and disgusting beast.” 21 A mighty angel picked up a stone like a huge millstone and threw it into the sea and said: “With such force will Babylon the great city be thrown down, and will never be found again. 22 No melodies of harpists and musicians, flutists and trumpeters, will ever be heard in you again. No craftsmen in any trade will ever be found in you again. No sound of the millstone will ever be heard in you again. 23 No light from a lamp will ever be seen in you again. No voices of bride and groom will ever be heard in you again. Because your merchants were the great ones of the world, all nations were led astray by your magic potion.” 19: 1 After this I heard what sounded like the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying: “Alleluia! Salvation, glory, and might belong to our God, 2 for true and just are his judgments. He has condemned the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her harlotry. He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.” 3 They said a second time: “Alleluia! Smoke will rise from her forever and ever.” 9 Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who have been called to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” P S A L M Psalm 100:1b-2, 3, 4, 5 R: Blessed are they who are called to the wedding feast of the Lamb. 1 Sing joyfully to the LORD, all you lands; 2 serve the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful song. (R) 3 Know that the LORD is God; he made us, his we are; his people, the flock he tends. (R) 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, his courts with praise; give thanks to him; bless his name. (R) 5 For he is good: the LORD, whose kindness endures forever, and his faithfulness, to all generations. (R) G O S P E L Catherine of Alexandria is one of the Patron Saints of Philosophers. I believe we need to rediscover the art of philosophy in the world today in order to get people thinking a lot more about the things they say and do. So much of modern debate around issues such as abortionare completely illogical. People need to have a coherent philosophical understanding of the human person to buttress whatever their arguments may be. Luke 21:20-28 20 Jesus said to his disciples: “When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, know that its desolation is at hand. 21 Then those in Judea must flee to the mountains. Let those within the city escape from it, and let those in the countryside not enter the city, 22 for these days are the time of punishment when all the scriptures are fulfilled. 23 Woe to pregnant women and nursing mothers in those days, for a terrible calamity will come upon the earth and a wrathful judgment upon this people. 24 They will fall by the edge of the sword and be taken as captives to all the Gentiles; and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. 25 “There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on earth nations will be in dismay, perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves. 26 People will die of fright in anticipation of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 But when these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand.” my reflections t h i n k : Salvation is God’s gift to us, but like any other gift offered to us, we must choose to accept or neglect it. God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR Baruch 4-6 Baruch 4-6 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | St. Catherine of Alexandria It was a great moment for our pilgrimage group when we finally arrived at our hotel near the traditional Mount Sinai. After depositing our luggage in our rooms, the bus brought us to the foot of the mountain. We walked through the moonscape-like area until we reached a huge complex of buildings — the Greek-Orthodox Monastery of St. Catherine that houses her relics. Who was she? We don’t have historical facts about her life but only legends. Legends are not fairy tales but stories that contain certain truths. Instead of questioning the accuracy of the facts, let us ask: What does her story teach us? Sometime in the Roman era, Catherine was born into a patrician family in Alexandria, Egypt. Her study of philosophy led her to convert to Christianity. When she tried to convert the emperor, he had her examined by 50 philosophers, all of whom she converted to Christianity. The emperor attempted to make her his consort, but because she refused she was imprisoned and tortured. The rage of the emperor knew no bounds when he came to know that Catherine had converted his wife, the jailer and most of the imperial guards. He was so enraged that he had Catherine tortured and decapitated. Although not a fairy tale, this legend had a happy ending. Legend tells us that angels came and carried her body to Mount Sinai where her relics are venerated until now. We see here a very intelligent woman who would not compromise her faith, despite the tempting offer to spend her life in the emperor’s court, and despite imprisonment and torture which ultimately led to her death. Looking at the history of early Christianity may lead to the impression that most Christians came from the lower levels of society, so that cynics called Christianity a religion for the poor and the dumb. But Catherine was one of the countless followers of Christ who was highly intelligent and who used her God-given reason to love the Giver of all wisdom. May St. Catherine’s example inspire us to use our intelligence and God-given talents to spread His Kingdom and proclaim His greater glory. Fr. Rudy Horst, SVD Reflection Question: When I am offered money or a higher social status, am I tempted to accept either one at the expense of abandoning my Christian values? Lord, it is not always easy to follow You. Remind us more often of saints like St. Catherine so that we may remain faithful to You until the end. St. Jucunda, pray for us. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | | Find one near you!
