| Dear Lordie, May others see Jesus in you this Friday.
Praying for you,

| wisdom from children But now, Lady, I ask you, not as though I were writing a new commandment but the one we have had from the beginning: let us love one another. – 2 John 5 A family of four were having dinner in a restaurant, when another family sat on the table nearest them, ordered and waited for their food. As the first family began to eat, the little girl noticed what the other family was eating. She saw that the only thing they ordered was a bowl of rice and a medium-sized fish. She also noticed that the parents hardly touched the food, but instead kept on urging their children to eat. She also noticed that they looked neat but very poorly dressed, and looked very hungry. After a few minutes, she asked her mother if she could give the food on her plate to the other family. Her mother instantly admonished her, telling her not to mind other people but just eat. She looked at her mother, and said, “Look at them, they are hungry but that is all they have. We have so much and they have nothing but that fish. Did you not teach us to be kind?” There are times when children know better than their elders. When God uses them to remind us of our calling to love, we would do well to heed them. Chelle Crisanto (ellehcmaria@yahoo. com) REFLECTION: “Love will stammer rather than be dumb.” (Robert Leighton) Oftentimes I look away when I know that I need to reach out and help a friend. Help me, Lord, and put in my heart that I must love no matter what the circumstances are. Give me a heart of love. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING There are many people at work in the world who are trying to bring down the Gospel. Some of them do this consciously but many of them unconsciously attack the values of the Gospel through ignorance or misdirected passion. This makes it all the more urgent for us to live and proclaim the Gospel. I am sure that if we can convince those who attack it unconsciously not to do so, it will be far more difficult for those who do it deliberately to avoid detection. Being able to see one’s enemy goes a long way to learning how to defeat him or her. 2 John 4-9 4 [Chosen Lady:] I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth just as we were commanded by the Father. 5 But now, Lady, I ask you, not as though I were writing a new commandment but the one we have had from the beginning: let us love one another. 6 For this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, as you heard from the beginning, in which you should walk. 7 Many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh; such is the deceitful one and the antichrist. 8 Look to yourselves that you do not lose what we worked for but may receive a full recompense. 9 Anyone who is so “progressive” as not to remain in the teaching of the Christ does not have God; whoever remains in the teaching has the Father and the Son. P S A L M Psalm 119:1, 2, 10, 11, 17, 18 R: Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord! 1 Blessed are they whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD. (R) 2 Blessed are they who observe his decrees, who seek him with all their heart. (R) 10 With all my heart I seek you; let me not stray from your commands. (R) 11 Within my heart I treasure your promise, that I may not sin against you. (R) 17 Be good to your servant, that I may live and keep your words. (R) 18 Open my eyes, that I may consider the wonders of your law. (R) G O S P E L The Scriptures often remind us of what has happened in the past, both the good and the bad. We need to learn not just from our own experiences in life but those of others as well, particularly those whom God places before us as examples of faith — or examples of what not to do. Let us never insist on having “to know something for ourselves” if it is possible to learn the same through the experiences of others. Luke 17:26-37 26 Jesus said to his disciples: “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man; 27 they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage up to the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 Similarly, as it was in the days of Lot: they were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building; 29 on the day when Lot left Sodom, fire and brimstone rained from the sky to destroy them all. 30 So it will be on the day the Son of Man is revealed. 31 On that day, a person who is on the housetop and whose belongings are in the house must not go down to get them, and likewise a person in the field must not return to what was left behind. 32 Remember the wife of Lot. 33 Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will save it. 34 I tell you, on that night, there will be two people in one bed; one will be taken, the other left. 35 And there will be two women grinding meal together; one will be taken, the other left.” 36 37 They said to him in reply, “Where, Lord?” He said to them, “Where the body is, there also the vultures will gather.” came and destroyed them all. 35 And there will be two women grinding meal together; one will be taken, the other left.” 36 37 They said to him in reply, “Where, Lord?” He said to them, “Where the body is, there also the vultures will gather.” Jeremiah 11-14 my reflections t h i n k : Let us never insist on having “to know something for ourselves” if it is possible to learn the same through the experiences of others. _________________________________________________________ God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR Jeremiah 11-14 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | About Love and the Antichrist The first reading today speaks about several important points. First, the writer stresses love as the basic attitude of Christians. He reminds us of Jesus’ words, “A new commandment I give to you: love one another even as I have loved you. By this all people will know that you are my disciples — if you have love for one another.” A Christian ought to manifest love in his daily life. By love we mean not the romantic or sentimental kind. Rather, it is a kind of sacrificial love that Jesus showed with His selfsacrifice on the Cross. In the Constitution on the Church in the World, the second Vatican Council stresses that Christians cannot yearn for anything more ardently than to serve the men and women of the modern world with mounting generosity and success. Therefore, by holding faithfully to the Gospel and benefiting from its resources, by joining with every person who loves and practices justice, Christians have shouldered a gigantic task for fulfillment in this world” (no. 93). A real disciple of Christ involves himself in the affairs of the world in order to change it for the better through love of truth and justice. A second point in these few verses is a warning against deceivers who, through their preaching, contradict the teachings of Christ and the Church. During this time, the heresy that Jesus was not the Son of God — meaning the denial of Christ’s divinity — was spreading, a false doctrine being taught by some “churches” even today. The author of the letter calls these “believers” Antichrist. John, in his second letter, declares that whoever denies the divinity of Christ is the Antichrist. We may believe strongly in the divinity of Christ, but there are Catholics who ignore or even reject certain teachings of the Church that are based on the words of the Lord. May they not slip unknowingly into the camp of the Antichrist! May all of us humbly accept what the Holy Spirit teaches through the Church — even when it goes against modern trends!Fr. Rudy Horst, SVD Reflection Question: Am I aware that love makes me a real disciple of Christ? Do I readily accept the teachings of the Church? Lord, increase and strengthen my love for You, for my fellowmen and for the Church. Help me to work actively for a better world, a world of love and justice, as You did when You were here on earth.
