| Dear Lordie, Get empowered by His message to you this Tuesday!
Praying for you,
Bo Sanchez
| HIS POSSESSION “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save what was lost.” – Luke 19:10 When you close a document on Microsoft Word, the computer asks, “Do you want to save changes?” That’s if you inputted any changes at all. But if you already saved it and didn’t make any further changes (or didn’t make any changes at all) it wouldn’t ask you anymore. In fact, if you try to save it, the “save” option would not be clickable. Why? Because there was nothing to save in the first place. If it wasn’t yours, you can’t save it. You can only save something that was in your possession to begin with. I find comfort in the realization that the reason why God came to save us was because we were His possession in the first place. If we weren’t once upon a time good, righteous and holy, He wouldn’t have to save us. We were born on the path to heaven. We tend to go astray, thus the need to get us back on track. But the beauty of it is that we were meant to travel that road to begin with. Lots of times I forget this truth. When I look only at my faults and weaknesses. But the greater reality is that I was made in God’s image and likeness in the first place. REFLECTION: Feel lost? He has every intention to seek, find and save you. Lord, I desire to be found by You. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING Repenting of our sins is the starting point of God’s work in our lives. What point is there of Him working within us to make us holy if we do not already desire to be done with sin? None, or at best very little. Let us always seek an attitude and heart of repentance and sorrow for our sin and pray that we will never neglect the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Revelation 1:1-4; 2:1-5 1 The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave to him, to show his servants what must happen soon. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2 who gives witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ by reporting what he saw. 3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud and blessed are those who listen to this prophetic message and heed what is written in it, for the appointed time is near. 4 John, to the seven churches in Asia: grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne. 2: 1 I heard the Lord saying to me: “To the angel of the church in Ephesus, write this: “‘The one who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks in the midst of the seven gold lampstands says this: 2 “I know your works, your labor, and your endurance, and that you cannot tolerate the wicked; you have tested those who call themselves apostles but are not, and discovered that they are impostors. 3 Moreover, you have endurance and have suffered for my name, and you have not grown weary. 4 Yet I hold this against you: you have lost the love you had at first. 5 Realize how far you have fallen. Repent, and do the works you did at first. Otherwise, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.” P S A L M Psalm 1:1-2, 3, 4, 6 R: Those who are victorious I will feed from the tree of life. 1 Blessed the man who follows not the counsel of the wicked nor walks in the way of sinners, nor sits in the company of the insolent, 2 but delights in the law of the LORD and meditates on his law day and night. (R) 3 He is like a tree planted near running water, that yields its fruit in due season, and whose leaves never fade. Whatever he does, prospers. (R) 4 Not so the wicked, not so; they are like chaff which the wind drives away. 6 For the LORD watches over the way of the just, but the way of the wicked vanishes. (R) G O S P E L I wonder what your blindness is? We are all blinded by certain sins and events in our lives. It is up to us to choose to place ourselves under the grace of God and allow Him to heal these hurts and areas of our lives so that we will be able to see properly again. Let us trust that our God is merciful and loving and ready to heal us so that we can better follow Him and know His love and will for us. Luke 18:35-43 35 As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging, 36 and hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what was happening. 37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” 38 He shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!” 39 The people walking in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent, but he kept calling out all the more, “Son of David, have pity on me!” 40 Then Jesus stopped and ordered that he be brought to him; and when he came near, Jesus asked him, 41 “What do you want me to do for you?” He replied, “Lord, please let me see.” 42 Jesus told him, “Have sight; your faith has saved you.” 43 He immediately received his sight and followed him, giving glory to God. When they saw this, all the people gave praise to God. 23-26 my reflections t h i n k : W e are all blinded by certain sins and events in our lives. _________________________________________________________ God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR Jeremiah 27-30 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | Three Messages Today’s first reading contains passages from John’s message to Sardis and Laodicea, the fifth and seventh churches, respectively, in Asia. From the many points covered let us take a look at three: 1. In Sardis, John again discovers the lack of enthusiasm initially present in the community and urges a return to the love it manifested in the beginning. He also urges the community to wake up from their deadly lethargy and remain awake. In Sardis, the call to stay awake also has a historical background. At least twice, this rich city was captured and destroyed because in one instance, the watchmen were asleep, and in another, the watchmen were not watching at all. 2. The strongest and most shocking message is directed at Laodicea. The Lord cannot find anything good in the community of this great commercial and financial center where material wealth had impoverished the spirit. Rich as Laodicea was, it lacked one important thing: a well. Hot water is piped into it from Hierapolis’ hot springs while its cold water comes from the cold springs at Colossae. Lukewarm water comes out from where the pipes meet and this is what the Laodiceans get. This is the background of the admonition that those who are lukewarm in their faith will be spit out by the Lord. God can convert a cold-blooded sinner and can induce a hot rebel to repent, but lukewarmness, a symbol of indifference, even the Lord cannot penetrate. It is a disease that affects many Christians. 3. John brings out a beautiful image of the Lord: He stands at the door knocking, waiting for it to be opened. A well-known painting by Holtman Hunt shows Jesus knocking at a door that has no handle on the outside. It can be opened only from inside. It symbolizes our heart. God gently knocks and waits for us to invite Him into our lives. Such an image of God is not found in any other religion. Ours is a God who does not impose on anyone but seeks to be invited. Surely, love cannot go further than that.Fr. Rudy Horst, SVD Reflection Question: Am I alert and watchful in spiritual matters? Do I detect indifference in my attitude? Do I invite the Lord into my life when He approaches me through a fellow human being? Lord, the image of You knocking at my door touches me. May I recognize You in people who, in Your name, knock at my door asking for help. St. Gratia, pray for us. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | | Find one near you!
