| Dear Lordie, Be inspired with His message to you this Saturday!
Praying for you,

| DO YOU HAVE FEARS? “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” – Mark 4:40 Two of my greatest fears are speaking in public and flying on an airplane. I used to be scared of speaking in public. I was frightened of making mistakes in my grammar and pronunciation. I was afraid that the audience would not understand my message. I was terrified of forgetting what I had to say. I was also afraid of flying. The first time I rode on a plane, I was seated on the window seat beside the right wing of the aircraft. For the whole three hours of the trip, my eyes were fixed on the wing, making sure it would not fall off during the flight. But God has a way of helping me overcome my fears. He chose me, anointed me and sent me to different places to give talks, retreats and seminars in and out of the country. As I responded to His call to serve Him, He gave me the grace to put my fears aside. Meann Tee (meanntytee@yahoo.com) REFLECTION: What are you afraid of? Surrender it to God. Pray and He will do wonders beyond your imagination! Lord, whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. I will trust in You, Lord, and I will never be afraid. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING This is one of the most inspiring chapters in all of Scripture. Take a moment and read the whole chapter and allow yourself to savor it and mull over it. The heart of it all is love – the love of the Father and Son for us all that inspires the faith of the Patriarchs and so on down to the saints and us. We need to allow ourselves to be inspired by the responses of others so that we can respond to God’s love with greater fervor. Hebrews 11:1-2, 8-19 1 Brothers and sisters: Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen. 2 Because of it the ancients were well attested. 8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance; he went out, not knowing where he was to go. 9 By faith he sojourned in the promised land as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs of the same promise; 10 for he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and maker is God. 11 By faith he received power to generate, even though he was past the normal age — and Sarah herself was sterile — for he thought that the one who had made the promise was trustworthy. 12 So it was that there came forth from one man, himself as good as dead, descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sands on the seashore. 13 All these died in faith. They did not receive what had been promised but saw it and greeted it from afar and acknowledged themselves to be strangers and aliens on earth, 14 for those who speak thus show that they are seeking a homeland. 15 If they had been thinking of the land from which they had come, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 But now they desire a better homeland, a heavenly one. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. 17 By faith Abraham, when put to the test, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was ready to offer his only son, 18 of whom it was said, “Through Isaac descendants shall bear your name.” 19 He reasoned that God was able to raise even from the dead, and he received Isaac back as a symbol. P S A L M Luke 1:69, 70, 71-72, 73-75 R: Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel; he has come to his people. 69 He has raised up for us a mighty savior, born of the house of his servant David. (R) 70 Through his holy prophets he promised of old 71 that he would save us from our sins from the hand of all who hate us. 72 He promised to show mercy to our fathers and to be mindful of his holy covenant. (R) 73 This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham: 74 to set us free from the bonds of our enemies, free to worship him without fear, 75 holy and righteousness in his sight all the days of our life. (R) G O S P E L Jesus could easily sleep through an earthquake. Why? He knows that He is loved by His Father in Heaven and ultimately that is all that matters in this life. What I have just said sounds a bit fundamentalistic, and it is, but it also captures the ultimate truth of how we are able to live a peaceful and calm life. Only the knowledge of God’s love for me enables me to live at peace with myself. Nothing else is capable of doing this. ALLELUIA R: Alleluia, alleluia God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might have eternal life. R: Alleluia, alleluia Mark 4:35-41 35 On that day, as evening drew on, Jesus said to his disciples: “Let us cross to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd, they took Jesus with them in the boat just as he was. And other boats were with him. 37 A violent squall came up and waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was already filling up. 38 Jesus was in the stern, asleep on a cushion. They woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 He woke up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Quiet! Be still!” The wind ceased and there was great calm. 40 Then he asked them, “Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?” 41 They were filled with great awe and said to one another, “Who then is this whom even wind and sea obey?” my reflections t h in k : We need to allow ourselves to be inspired by the responses of others so that we could respond to God’s love with greater fervor. God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN Exodus 37-40 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | “Lord, do you not care?” I will never forget my trip to the island of Patmos, the island where John received the revelations we find in the last book of the New Testament. It was a frightening trip. And so I understand very well the fear of the disciples and their a-bit-irreverent question, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” How could Jesus take a nap on a small boat in the middle of a severe storm? The answer is simple. He felt safe and sound because He knew that His heavenly Father will see to it that nothing bad will happen to Him and to His friends. He was full of trust in God’s providence and powerful protection. Somebody once said that if you take God seriously, you can relax about practically everything else. The best example for this is Jesus sleeping in a dangerous situation. His disciples, however, lack this trust and confidence in a loving God and so they were scared, upset and robbed Jesus of His well- deserved rest. All of us experience various storms in life. A major problem comes our way. A life-threatening illness attacks us. A loved one passes away. A job is lost and we don’t know how to feed our children. A marriage breaks up because of the betrayal of one partner… The list of possible storms hitting us in life is endless. What do we do in such situations? Are we like the disciples — afraid, scared, having sleepless nights and our blood pressure shooting up? Do we ask God, “Where are you? Don’t you care? Why are you silent?” These questions will come naturally, but do we entertain them? If so, it shows that we still lack the rock-like trust and faith in a loving Father-God that Jesus showed when He slept in the midst of a stormy sea. The author of the Letter to the Hebrews writes, “Faith is… being certain of what we cannot see.” Do we thank God only when we see that He has helped and saved us? Or are we able to thank Him already when we don’t see His intervention yet? Fr. Rudy Horst, SVD Reflection Question: How do I react to the storms I experience in life? Do they shake my faith or do I stay relaxed because I know that God will not let me down? Lord, forgive my lack of faith and trust, and help me to learn that even in dangerous situations You are there for me.
