| Dear Lordie, Follow Him all the way this Thursday.
Praying for you,

| RIGHT CONNECTIONS Therefore he is always able to save those who approach God through him, since he forever lives to make intercession for them. – Hebrews 7:25 It was a scene from the movie about the most publicized rape case in the 1960s that involved a beauty queen and the sons of very wealthy, influential people. The mother of one of the accused knelt before the First Lady, who was her friend. She begged for the life of her son who was sentenced to die by electric chair. The First Lady looked at her compassionately but shook her head. She couldn’t help her this time. The crime committed was too heinous and unforgivable. This scenario could have happened to us. We, too, have committed the most unforgivable sin against the Most Holy God who created us. We deserved death. But because God loves us so much, He sent His only Son to take our place. Yup, Jesus took the punishment that should have been ours. Why? Because His Father asked Him to. Now, every time we go to God through Jesus, He sees only His obedient Son. Jesus takes our prayers and petitions personally to His Daddy. He is like our padrino.Thank God, we have the highest connection we will ever need — One who will never turn us away or say, “Sorry, I can’t help you this time.” Ronna Ledesma (ronnaledesma@email.com) REFLECTION: After all that Jesus went through for us, why do we still turn to man for help instead of going straight to Him? Jesus, forgive me for those occasions when I relied more on man than on You. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING The power of Jesus to save is certain. Thanks be to God that He has given us a redeemer who cannot be defeated! Also, thanks be to God that Jesus, out of love for all, willingly embraced the cross so that we would be saved. It does not matter how weak we are, the power of Jesus to save can overcome all things. Hebrews 7:25-8:6 25 Jesus is always able to save those who approach God through him, since he lives forever to make intercession for them. 26 It was fitting that we should have such a high priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, higher than the heavens. 27 He has no need, as did the high priests, to offer sacrifice day after day, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did that once for all when he offered himself. 28 For the law appoints men subject to weakness to be high priests, but the word of the oath, which was taken after the law, appoints a son, who has been made perfect forever. 8: 1 The main point of what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 2 a minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle that the Lord, not man, set up. 3 Now every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus the necessity for this one also to have something to offer. 4 If then he were on earth, he would not be a priest, since there are those who offer gifts according to the law. 5 They worship in a copy and shadow of the heavenly sanctuary, as Moses was warned when he was about to erect the tabernacle. For he says, “See that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” 6 Now he has obtained so much more excellent a ministry as he is mediator of a better covenant, enacted on better promises. P S A L M Psalm 40:7-8, 8-9, 10, 17 R: Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will. 6 [7] Sacrifice or oblation you wished not, but ears open to obedience you gave me. Burnt offerings or sin-offerings you sought not; 7 [8] then said I, “Behold I come.” (R) “In the written scroll it is prescribed for me, 8 [9] to do your will, O my God, is my delight, and your law is within my heart!” (R) 9 [10] I announced your justice in the vast assembly; I did not restrain my lips, as you, O LORD, know. (R) 16 [17] May all who seek you exult and be glad in you, and may those who love your salvation say ever, “The LORD be glorified.” (R) G O S P E L Jesus withdraws from the crowd because He knows His need for reflection. All of us need to withdraw from the busyness of our lives once in a while to reflect upon what is going on within us. This gives meaning to the experiences of our lives. If we do not reflect we will never know what life truly is. Life is not just doing things but knowing why we do them. It is this capacity for self-consciousness that makes us human and makes life worthwhile. Without it we would merely be like wind-up toys doing all sorts of things with no rhyme or reason to them. ALLELUIA R: Alleluia, alleluia Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life to light through the Gospel. R: Alleluia, alleluia Mark 3:7-12 7 Jesus withdrew toward the sea with his disciples. A large number of people [followed] from Galilee and from Judea. 8 Hearing what he was doing, a large number of people came to him also from Jerusalem, from Idumea, from beyond the Jordan, and from the neighborhood of Tyre and Sidon. 9 He told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not crush him. 10 He had cured many and, as a result, those who had diseases were pressing upon him to touch him. 11 And whenever unclean spirits saw him they would fall down before him and shout, “You are the Son of God.” 12 He warned them sternly not to make him known. Exodus 10-12 my reflections t h i n k : It is this capacity of self-consciousness that makes us human and makes life worthwhile. God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN Exodus 10-12 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | THE REASON IS SALVATION Jesus became one like us in order to embrace humanity and effect salvation by living life to the full. During His three-year ministry, He went around teaching and showing, through His miracles, the Good News of salvation. Whenever necessary, He healed the sick. It was His best way of empathizing with us and communicating to us His power and love. In today’s Gospel, many people sought Jesus — so many that He was afraid that they would crush Him maybe to death. But He did not run away from them. Instead He instructed His apostles to put Him on a boat so He could continue His mission. For the Lord, it was His mission first. For the Lord, there is nothing and nobody who could stop Him in fulfilling His cause. The unclean spirits recognized it such that when they saw Him, they fell down before Him and shouted, “You are the Son of God!” As a priest for more than 18 years, I realized the difficulty of being effective in my ministry. Preaching is not an easy task. So is pastoral work. What had consoled me many times in the past is that not everyone who had listened to the Lord’s preaching and received the gift of healing changed. The Lord, and the preacher, could only do their best. In the end, the listener or the receiver is responsible. Priesthood may be frustrating. Ministering to the faithful can be very tiring, sad and even psychologically draining. Without the necessary vocation and faith, the minister may be led to a disastrous and unwanted end. But the Lord Jesus was clear in His mission: salvation! It is enough reason for and against everything — fatigue, sadness and so on. When the going gets tough, the Lord and the Christian get going! While it is true that many times giving up seems to be the best thing to do, the Lord will always come to us and say, “No.” We never give up on Him and the mission, in the same way that He saw through everything to the end, up to His own death! Fr. Benny Tuazon Reflection Question: When faced with difficulties in your mission or ministry, do you give up or do you go on with the conviction that God will see you through it? Grant me enough faith and courage, Lord, to persevere in what I need to do in this life. Amen. St. Maurus, pray for us. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | | Find one near you!
