| Dear Lordie, May others see Jesus in you this Friday.
Praying for you,
Bo Sanchez
| Forgive and Forget “For I will forgive their evildoing and remember their sins no more.” – Hebrews 8:12 I worked on the presentation materials that my boss needed for a meeting. I knew I didn’t have enough time to finish everything. I rushed it and committed a lot of mistakes that I thought were too late to correct. My boss was extra nice so he didn’t deserve lousy work from me, but I was too scared to tell him about it. I hesitated for a while but after the meeting, I approached him to apologize for my lousy work. He said he did notice some errors which affected his presentation but he just said, “Don’t worry about it. It’s never too late to correct mistakes and there’s always room for improvement.” Fear, shame and guilt are often used by the enemy to hinder us from reconciling with God, causing us to stay farther away from Him. Sometimes we allow these things to get the better of us by thinking that we are unworthy of God’s forgiveness because of the terrible things we have done in our lives. So we end up being buried in guilt and misery. But we need not live a life of remorse. God, through the sacrament of reconciliation, offers us His mercy and love to set us free from self-reproach. Do not delay or forego this offer. Do it today. It’s your liberation day.Jane Gonzales-Rauch (mjsg2468@yahoo.com) REFLECTION: What is keeping you from going to confession? There is nothing too abominable that God in His immense mercy and love would not be able to forgive if we truly repent and humbly come before Him. Dear God, thank You for the gift of freedom and forgiveness. Amen. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING God’s revelation of Himself to us human beings has been a gradual reality. The same is true for us as individuals. It is very rare that God reveals everything in one go. If we knew the totality of God’s will for us it would be too much for us to handle and we would get discouraged. This is one of the reasons why we have to be committed to prayer – in order to grow daily in our understanding of God’s will and purpose for our lives. Hebrews 8:6-13 6 Brothers and sisters: Now our high priest has obtained so much more excellent a ministry as he is mediator of a better covenant, enacted on better promises. 7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, no place would have been sought for a second one. 8 But he finds fault with them and says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will conclude a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. 9 It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers the day I took them by the hand to lead them forth from the land of Egypt; for they did not stand by my covenant and I ignored them, says the Lord. 10 But this is the covenant I will establish with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their minds and I will write them upon their hearts. I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 11 And they shall not teach, each one his fellow citizen and kinsman, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know me, from least to greatest. 12 For I will forgive their evildoing and remember their sins no more.” 13 When he speaks of a “new” covenant, he declares the first one obsolete. And what has become obsolete and has grown old is close to disappearing. P S A L M Psalm 85:8, 10, 11-12, 13-14 R: Kindness and truth shall meet. 7 [8] Show us, O LORD, your mercy, and grant us your salvation. 9 [10] Near indeed is his salvation to those who fear him, glory dwelling in our land. (R) 10 [11] Kindness and truth shall meet; justice and peace shall kiss. 11 [12] Truth shall spring out of the earth, and justice shall look down from heaven. (R) 12 [13] The LORD himself will give his benefits; our land shall yield its increase. 13 [14] Justice shall walk before him, and salvation, along the way of his steps. (R) G O S P E L Jesus worked very closely with only a few men in order to prepare them for the ministry of the Gospel after He ascended into heaven. Yes, the Apostles were the chosen few. However, there were also the 72 in Luke’s Gospel and the 70 in Matthew; there are also the many women who accompanied Him in His ministry. There is a role for us all in the work of salvation. Let us seek to discover our part and to perform it as well as we can. ALLELUIA R: Alleluia, alleluia God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. R: Alleluia, alleluia Mark 3:13-19 13 Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted and they came to him. 14 He appointed twelve whom he also named apostles that they might be with him and he might send them forth to preach 15 and to have authority to drive out demons: 16 He appointed the Twelve: Simon, whom he named Peter; 17 James, son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James, whom he named Boanerges, that is, sons of thunder; 18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus; Thaddeus, Simon the Cananean, 19 and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him. my reflections t h i n k : There is a role for us all in the work of salvation. God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN Exodus 13-15 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | CHRIST’S DARING DOZEN Many years ago, as wide-eyed teenagers, we enjoyed a movie entitled The Magnificent 12. Although it pales in comparison to present-day action-filled movies, the movie caught us in rapt attention. Anything adventurous and everything that smacked of action, availability and awesome dedication to a worthy cause was something for adolescents to adulate — and emulate! Today, we may not have the same reasons to adulate the “band of brothers” — that initial ragtag band of 12 that the Lord called and sent “to preach and drive out demons.” But we do have reasons to emulate them. Various “demons” still hound us and haunt us at any given time. Men and women in the noontime of their lives, the so-called midlife transitionists who most likely constitute a great part of the readership of these daily reflections, are beset by what psychologists and spiritual writers call the “noontime devil.” No longer in the prime of their lives, having “been there; done that,” there is now a growing tendency to slacken off, to relax one’s grip, to allow oneself to slide gradually to a certain way of life, to a certain mentality, to a compromise here and there. We forget. We grow weary of doing good. No longer spring chickens who once were on fire with the power of the Spirit, we now appear more like balloons whose spirit has deflated. Today, we are reminded of how the daring dozen were called and constituted. They were meant to rise higher than most ordinary mortals. They “went up the mountain” with the Lord, where they were mandated to preach and drive out demons. I remember a memorable scene from that almost 40-year-old movie. The magnificent 12 were sent to go up and traverse a mountain. Against all odds, despite all travails, they made it, like the band of 12 who formed Christ’s daring dozen. Heroes were never “a dime a dozen.” Not then, not now. Discipleship costs. Discipleship pains. It needs drive, daring and “derring do.” Let Christ’s daring dozen lead us.Fr. Chito Dimaranan, SDB Reflection Question: If Jesus were to call you today to be part of His daring dozen, how would you respond? Keep me on fire, Lord, for Your service.
