| Dear Lordie, Offer your hardships and trials to the Lord this Friday.
Praying for you,
Bo Sanchez
| pray more He would go away to lonely places where he prayed. – Luke 5: 16 I lead a very busy life. But the busier I get, the more I realize I need prayer — quiet, solo, intimate time with the Lord. My soul thirsts for it. Without it, being busy would seem directionless and meaningless. With it, everything finds its purpose. Jesus is the Son of God. He is God! And He prayed — a lot! Many times the Bible tells us He would pray in the middle of a busy, hectic, toxic schedule. His preaching, healing and building His Father’s kingdom on earth weren’t an excuse for not having time to commune with His Father in heaven. He made time for it. He valued it like the very air that He breathed. Are you busy building God’s kingdom yet have no time to spend with the King? Pause. Stop. Pray. And spend real time with God. REFLECTION: When was the last time you really had a personal, intimate prayer time with the Lord? Today is a good time. Dear God, I want to spend time with You now. I want to talk to You. Listen to You. Or simply be in Your presence. Amen. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING Each of us has a responsibility to live the truth we hear in the Gospel. If we who have heard the Gospel do not live it, we will be held accountable for the lives of those who have never heard it. Let us pray for men and women to take up the call to devote their lives exclusively to living and proclaiming the Gospel. If that is not our call, let us be generous in supporting them. We all have a role to play here – I hope you know what your role is and that you are living it. 1 John 5:5-13 5 Beloved: Who indeed is the victor over the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 6 This is the one who came through water and blood, Jesus Christ, not by water alone, but by water and blood. The Spirit is the one that testifies, and the Spirit is truth. 7 So there are three that testify, 8 the Spirit, the water, and the blood, and the three are of one accord. 9 If we accept human testimony, the testimony of God is surely greater. Now the testimony of God is this, that he has testified on behalf of his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has this testimony within himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar by not believing the testimony God has given about his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever possesses the Son has life; whoever does not possess the Son of God does not have life. 13 I write these things to you so that you may know that you have eternal life, you who believe in the name of the Son of God. P S A L M Psalm 147:12-13, 14-15, 19-20 R: Praise the Lord, Jerusalem. 12 Glorify the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Zion. 13 For he has strengthened the bars of your gates; he has blessed your children within you. (R) 14 He has granted peace in your borders; with the best of wheat he fills you. 15 He sends forth his command to the earth; swiftly runs his word! (R) 19 He has proclaimed his word to Jacob, his statutes and his ordinances to Israel. 20 He has not done thus for any other nation; his ordinances he has not made known to them. Alleluia. (R) G O S P E L We know that ultimately we will be cured of any sickness or disease we may have. This does not mean that we will never get sick or that we will not die of sickness. The truth is that there is no sickness in heaven: unfortunately we have not gotten to heaven yet. Of course, we pray to be preserved from sickness, but if it comes our way we must look for God’s message in it. It is not that God makes us sick, but that He uses every situation in our lives to draw us closer to Him. ALLELUIA R: Alleluia, alleluia Jesus proclaimed the Gospel of the Kingdom and cured every disease among the people. R: Alleluia, alleluia Luke 5:12-16 12 It happened that there was a man full of leprosy in one of the towns where he was; and when he saw Jesus, he fell prostrate, pleaded with him, and said, “Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.” 13 Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, “I do will it. Be made clean.” And the leprosy left him immediately. 14 Then he ordered him not to tell anyone, but “Go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them.” 15 The report about him spread all the more, and great crowds assembled to listen to him and to be cured of their ailments, 16 but he would withdraw to deserted places to pray. my reflections think: God uses every situation in our lives to draw us closer to Him. God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN Genesis 19-21 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | WHAT’S IN A NAME? “He brought him to Jesus, who looked at him and said, ‘You are Simon, son of John; your name shall be Cephas (which is rendered Peter).’” (John 1:42) Besides being the Dean of Studies of the Theology Department of San Carlos Seminary, I am also the admissions director of the seminary. My first duty is to screen applicants in the seminary by conducting preliminary interviews. My first encounter with these young men is usually with their names. I have encountered countless names, but one name stands out. It is that of a young man named Xerox. Yes, you read it right. When I asked him the reason for the name, he said that his father wanted to make him a junior but that was already too common. To make it unique, the father chose “Xerox” instead of making him a Junior. “What a cruel father,” I said to myself. Names in the olden times usually designate one’s profession, work or labor. Today, we still see the remnants of that cultural practice. People with surnames like Fisher, Farmer, Baker, Carpenter, Smith, Blacksmith, Priestly, etc. probably descended from the families in the trade corresponding to the names they bear. Yesterday, we heard Jesus proclaim His mission. Today, we witness a healing manifesting the fulfillment of that mission. Jesus “saves” a leper from the pain and the curse of his malady. The name Jesus means “God saves.” Jesus is true to His name. Being a Savior is not only a profession. It is Jesus’ mission. And for that mission, Jesus eventually will lay down His life. Today, we have lost the practice of using names signifying our profession or much less, our mission. But I pray that we do not lose the underlying attitude. Heroes emerge when people do things not simply as a profession (i.e., as a source of income), but as a mission. When we approach something as a profession, we stop when the cash stops flowing. But when we approach something as a mission, we do not stop even if one’s blood starts to flow. Fr. Joel O. Jason Reflection Question: Have you identified a mission that will give your life the sense of meaning that it needs? “Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous. Teach me to serve as I should. To give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds. Amen!” Blessed Edward Waterson, pray for us. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | | Find one near you!
