| Dear Lordie, Conquer this new week with God's Word in your heart!
Praying for you,

| FOUND IN TRANSLATION In times past, God spoke in partial and various ways to our ancestors through the prophets. – Hebrews 1:1 One of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had was when I met a man who looked very Filipino, yet couldn’t understand a word of English (much less Filipino). He was the Hispanic manager of the company I was visiting in Mexico. We killed time chatting while waiting for my ride to the airport. Well, time was actually dead from the start ‘coz we couldn’t understand each other at all. But he wanted us to connect. He was so outgoing and accommodating. After a few minutes of light frustration, his eyes lit up with a “eureka” moment. Excited, he hurriedly brought me to his office, turned on his computer and went to a translation website. We then took turns typing what we wanted to say as the program immediately translated it on screen for the other person. In an instant, we connected in total understanding. In the olden times, God spoke through the prophets. He does the same in my life today, but in new and creative ways — through music, the Bible, the voice of a friend, a lovely sunset or a gentle breeze. He wants me to understand Him. He connects with me. He’ll always find a way to get His message across.George Tolentino Gabriel (george.svp@gmail. com) REFLECTION: When was the last time God spoke to you and how? Open the eyes and ears of my heart, Lord, so I would recognize Your voice and understand Your words, through whomever and however You wish to say them. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING It was God’s initiative to send His Son, Jesus, to be the salvation of the world. We cannot take credit for anything – it is all pure gift. The author of the Letter to the Hebrews reminds us of Jesus’ status as Son of God as this is essential to his understanding of the nature of salvation. Only God can destroy the defilement of sin. Hebrews 1:1-6 1 Brothers and sisters: In times past, God spoke in partial and various ways to our ancestors through the prophets; 2 in these last days, he spoke to us through a son, whom he made heir of all things and through whom he created the universe, 3 who is the refulgence of his glory, the very imprint of his being, and who sustains all things by his mighty word. When he had accomplished purification from sins, he took his seat at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 as far superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. 5 For to which of the angels did God ever say: “You are my son; this day I have begotten you”? Or again: “I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me”? 6 And again, when he leads the first-born into the world, he says: “Let all the angels of God worship him.” P S A L M Psalm 97:1-2, 6-7, 9 R: Let all his angels worship him. 1 The LORD is king; let the earth rejoice; let the many isles be glad. 2 Justice and judgment are the foundation of his throne. (R) 6 The heavens proclaim his justice, and all peoples see his glory. 7 Let all his angels worship him. (R) 9 Because you, O LORD, are the Most High over all the earth, exalted far above all gods. (R) G O S P E L We easily forget the importance of repentance to conversion and a life of holiness. We should repent of our sins every day – identify how we have failed to appropriate the grace of God in our lives and ask God’s forgiveness for this failure. One good way to do this is to get into the practice of doing a conscience examination every day before sleeping. This is a highly recommended spiritual practice. ALLELUIA R: Alleluia, alleluia The Kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the Gospel. R: Alleluia, alleluia Mark 1:14-20 14 After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God: 15 “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” 16 As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were fishermen. 17 Jesus said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 18 Then they abandoned their nets and followed him. 19 He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets. 20 Then he called them. So they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him. my reflections think: Only God can destroy the defilement of sin. God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN Genesis 28-30 Genesis 28-30 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | The Parable of the Son A wealthy art collector died. There was to be a big auction of his painting collection. Many influential people gathered, excited to see the great paintings and have an opportunity to purchase one for their own collection. On the platform sat an ordinary painting of the collector’s son. The auctioneer pounded his gavel. “We will start the bidding with this picture of the son. Who will bid for this picture?” There was silence. But the auctioneer persisted. “Will somebody bid for this painting? Who will start the bidding? $100, $200?” A voice was heard shouting, “We didn’t come to see this painting. We came to see the masters: the Van Goghs, the Rembrandts. Get on with the real bids!” But the auctioneer continued. “The son! The son! Who’ll take the son?” Then a voice came from the very back of the room. It was the long-time gardener of the man and his son. “I have $10 for the painting.” It was all he could afford. “Give it to him for $10. Let’s see the masters,” the crowd shouted angrily. The auctioneer pounded the gavel. “Going once, twice, SOLD for $10!” A man sitting on the second row shouted, “Now let’s get on with the collection!” The auctioneer laid down his gavel. “I’m sorry, the auction is over. When I was called to conduct this auction, I was told of a secret stipulation in the will. I was not allowed to reveal that stipulation until this time. Only the painting of the son would be auctioned. Whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate, including the paintings. The man who takes the son gets everything!” Our first reading today reminds us that we have been given not only the painting of the Son but the Son Himself (Hebrews 1:1). The tragedy is that the Son came to His own but His own did not recognize Him (John 1:11ff). The first reading further tells us that the Son is the heir of all things and through whom all things were made (Hebrews 1:2). Remember, it is not only a story. It is a revelation of faith: Whoever takes the Son gets everything. Fr. Joel O. Jason Reflection Question: Are you looking for the “masters” of this world and in the process ignoring the Son? Lord Jesus, with St. Augustine we declare to You, “Our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee.” Amen. St. Nicanor, pray for us. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | | Find one near you!
