| Dear Lordie, Never lose sight of Jesus this Thursday.
Praying for you,
Bo Sanchez
| Good Example We must consider how to rouse one another to love and good works. – Hebrews 10: 24 I went out of our gate and saw some teenagers who just had their snack at the store in front of our house. Strewn on the ground around them were their wrappers of chips and empty bottles. Without a word, I started picking the trash and threw them into the waste bin. One of the teens nudged his friends as they cleaned up after their mess. It would have been more dramatic if I had shouted and admonished them. But I chose instead to show them the right thing to do. More love and good works are imitated and passed on when seen, not heard. Children will be more compassionate to the less privileged when they see adults giving to the poor. When you pray as a family, your children will adopt this practice when they grow up and have their own families. More than telling them what to do, show love and good works.Jun Asis (mabuting.balita@gmail.com) REFLECTION: Have you been a good example lately or merely talked about being one? Lord, may I use my mouth less and my hands and feet more to show Your love to others. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING Blood is very important in Jewish and Christian theology as it is seen as the life essence of the animal or person and it belongs to God. This is why the Jews will not eat food made from blood. In that blood symbolized the life essence of a being; it was offered to God as a sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins. This is why Christians see the shedding of the blood of Christ as the definitive offering of sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins, because as Jesus is without sin, His offering is totally meritorious and capable of bringing true and lasting forgiveness. Previously, sacrifices had to be continually offered as they were imperfect. Hebrews 10:19-25 19 Brothers and sisters: Since through the Blood of Jesus we have confidence of entrance into the sanctuary 20 by the new and living way he opened for us through the veil, that is, his flesh, 21 and since we have “a great priest over the house of God,” 22 let us approach with a sincere heart and in absolute trust, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water. 23 Let us hold unwaveringly to our confession that gives us hope, for he who made the promise is trustworthy. 24 We must consider how to rouse one another to love and good works. 25 We should not stay away from our assembly, as is the custom of some, but encourage one another, and this all the more as you see the day drawing near. P S A L M Psalm 24:1-2, 3-4, 5-6 R: Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face. 1 The LORD’s are the earth and its fullness; the world and those who dwell in it. 2 For he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers. (R) 3 Who can ascend the mountain of the LORD? Or who may stand in his holy place? 4 He whose hands are sinless, whose heart is clean, who desires not what is vain. (R) 5 He shall receive a blessing from the LORD, a reward from God his savior. 6 Such is the race that seeks for him, that seeks the face of the God of Jacob. (R) G O S P E L We cannot hide anything from God. He knows and sees all things. We may be able to fool those around us about our true character, but not God, and He is the one who truly matters when it comes to the considerations of eternal life. Let us then seek to be true and faithful to our Christian calling so that in all things we will be men and women of integrity, living what we proclaim and being true to our identity as the redeemed of the Lord. ALLELUIA R: Alleluia, alleluia A lamp to my feet is your word, a light to my path. R: Alleluia, alleluia Mark 4:21-25 21 Jesus said to his disciples, “Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket or under a bed, and not to be placed on a lampstand? 22 For there is nothing hidden except to be made visible; nothing is secret except to come to light. 23 Anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear.” 24 He also told them, “Take care what you hear. The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you, and still more will be given to you. 25 To the one who has, more will be given; from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.” my reflections think: Let us then seek to be true and faithful to our Christian calling so that in all things we will be men and women of integrity. God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN Exodus 31-33 Exodus 31-33 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | Four striking sayings of Jesus A short Gospel and yet quite confusing, isn’t it? Actually we have here four different sayings which Jesus uttered at different times, and which St. Mark put together the way we find them now. What is the lamp that should not to be hidden but placed on a lampstand? Jesus speaks here about faith. It is risky at times to live openly one’s faith. People might ridicule us when we live differently from our neighbors. And who wants to be different? We want to be in, to be accepted, to belong. But living out our Christian values and faith makes us different from the way our society tends to live. But Jesus challenges us to do just this and so proclaim the Gospel through our way of life. Pope John Paul II once called the Philippines the “beaconlight of faith in Asia” so that Christianity would spread throughout Asia. Are we, as a nation, a light that attracts non-Christians in neighboring countries? The words of Jesus make us also reflect about our Christian witness in our family, in the neighborhood and in the work place. My friend, who works in a government office, told me that the atmosphere changed dramatically since a new employee arrived. The new employee is a member of a Charismatic community and speaksnaturally about God, about her faith and her community. Soon, there were no more green jokes around, gossip stopped and a joyful, peaceful and pleasant work environment began. The last sentence of the Gospel might shock us but there is a profound truth behind it. It reminds me of my rector who approached me recently and said, “Rudy, you are a very busy man but to the one who has, more will be given…” And he asked me to be the head spiritual director of our seminarians in addition to all the work I already have. Also, in our spiritual life, we grow more when we read the Bible more, pray more, and love God and neighbour more. The more we give to God, the more He gives back to us. Fr. Rudy Horst, SVD Reflection Question: Do I hide my faith or do I dare to speak about my religion openly? Lord, thank You for reminding me today that my task is to make others more aware of You and Your love through my lifestyle. Thank You for promising me so much, as long as I give You much of my time and effort. Amen. St. Candida, pray for us. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | | Find one near you!
