| Dear Lordie, God will never leave you. This Wednesday is no different.
Praying for you,
Bo Sanchez
| MIRACLE “I prayed for this child, and the Lord granted my request.” - 1 Samuel 1:27 They couldn’t have kids. They had been trying for six years. Two doctors told them they were both incapable. Exhausted from work-ups and from disappointments, they decided one day to stop trying to solve it medically and just trust in the Lord. If He wanted them to have children, they would have. She remembered a verse from her youth. She used to share it at family encounter weekends as they witnessed to God’s healing love in her family. It said, “If you honor your father and mother, one day your own children will make you happy.” She believed this was a promise. A prophecy. Not just a possibility. Every day for the past month, my dad picks up my first niece, Mireya — our little miracle — and she spends the day at our house while her parents, my sister and brother-inlaw, go to work. They prayed for a child, and the Lord granted their request.George Tolentino Gabriel (george.svp@gmail.com) REFLECTION: Do I trust in God’s Word? Even if I haven’t received them yet, Lord, I already thank You for the answers to my prayers. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING Hannah is faithful to her vow and she hands over her son into the service of the Temple — he could not have been more than a few years old at this time. I see in her act of faith an undying gratitude to the Lord for hearing her prayer. She knows the conception of her son is a miracle and she will not hold anything back from God in thanksgiving for this gift. 1 Samuel 1:24-28 24 In those days, Hannah brought Samuel with her, along with a threeyear- old bull, an ephah of flour, and a skin of wine, and presented him at the temple of the LORD in Shiloh. 25 After the boy’s father had sacrificed the young bull, Hannah, his mother, approached Eli 26 and said “Pardon, my lord! As you live my lord, I am the woman who stood near you here, praying to the LORD. 27 I prayed for this child, and the LORD granted my request. 28 Now I, in turn, give him to the LORD; as long as he lives, he shall be dedicated to the LORD.” She left him there. P S A L M 1 Samuel 2:1, 4-5, 6-7, 8abcd R: My heart exults in the Lord, my Savior. 1 “My heart exults in the LORD, my horn is exalted in my God. I have swallowed up my enemies; I rejoice in my victory.” (R) 4 “The bows of the mighty are broken, while the tottering gird on strength. 5 The well-fed hire themselves out for bread, while the hungry batten on spoil. The barren wife bears seven sons, while the mother of many languishes.” (R) 6 “The LORD puts to death and gives life; he casts down to the nether world; he raises up again. 7 The LORD makes poor and makes rich, he humbles, he also exalts. (R) 8 “He raises the needy from the dust; from the ash heap he lifts up the poor, to seat them with nobles and make a glorious throne their heritage.” (R) G O S P E L Mary rejoices in the blessings God has given her — not to exult in her status as a recipient of God’s blessings, but in the humility of a true servant of God. Mary knows that her life is a gift from God and she wants us all to know that this is how she sees it. Let us never forget that we owe all good things and goodness in our lives to the mercy of God. Let us also pray that we will live with the humility and obedience of Mary so that we will bear the maximum fruit for God. Luke 1:46-56 46 Mary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; 47 my spirit rejoices in God my savior. 48 For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. 49 The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. 50 His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him. 51 He has shown might with his arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart. 52 He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly. 53 The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty. 54 He has helped Israel his servant, remembering his mercy, 55 according to his promise to our fathers, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.” 56 Mary remained with her about three months and then returned to her home. my reflections t h i n k : L et us never forget that we owe all good things and goodness in our lives to the mercy of God. Micah God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR Micah 4-7 4-7 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | COME , O DESIRE OF NATIONS AND KING OF THE GENTILES “O King of the Gentiles and the Desire of all, You are the cornerstone that binds two (the Jews and Gentiles) into one: Come, and save poor man whom You fashioned out of clay.” The previous “O Antiphons” stemmed from a clearly Jewish context. The Messiah would be the fulfillment of the Israelite expectations. Rightly did Mary proclaim in today’s Gospel: “[God] has come to the help of his servant Israel for he remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children for ever.” But now there is a shift of focus to the Gentiles as well, an expansion of God’s all-inclusive love. Come to think of it, on our part we are all fundamentally one: “fashioned out of clay.” And with our human frailty, ours is the essential need for salvation — regardless of race, belief, or ideology. In the greater context of Salvation History, Jew and Gentile meet in Jesus Christ. We Christians in fact acknowledge ourselves to be the spiritual heirs of the Jews. And as the keystone or cornerstone, Jesus Christ serves as the foundation, the spiritual support and mainstay of the Church. In Him the walls fall and crumble: “There does not exist among you Jew or Greek, slave or freeman, male or female. All are one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). Aside from considering the numerous men and women who up to now still haven’t heard the Good News of Salvation in Jesus Christ, we also acknowledge those “dark corners” within our hearts that still need to be penetrated by Christ’s Lordship. For all these, we beseech the Lord to indeed “Come!”Fr. Martin Macasaet, SDB Reflection Question: What areas of your life have you not surrendered to Christ’s Lordship? What keeps you from letting Him take over? Trust in the Lord with all your heart, on your own intelligence rely not.
