| Dear Lordie, Follow Him all the way this Thursday.
Praying for you,
Bo Sanchez
| ONLY FOR A MOMENT “At night fall, weeping enters in, but with the dawn, rejoicing.” – Psalm 30:6b Simultaneously, the three of us were sprawled on the floor, laughing our guts out. My two sisters and I had witnessed something really funny (I honestly can’t remember what) and we started a laugh that lasted for about 10 minutes. You know that feeling when you just can’t stop laughing? That’s what we had. On overload. I was about eight years old. My grandmother barged in the room because we were so noisy. She exclaimed something I’ll never forget: “You keep laughing so hard now, later on you’ll be crying!” True enough, later that day we did something mischievous, got a spanking and cried our eyes out. But there is as much truth in the positive: we may be crying now, but later on we will be laughing. In the cycle of life, there will always be the passion, the death, but always a resurrection.George Tolentino Gabriel (george.svp@gmail.com) REFLECTION: Are you weeping over something now? Laughter is just around the corner. Lord, You are my joy and my strength. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING Integrity is one of the most important aspects of our lives. A person’s integrity will indicate their willingness to be true not only to themselves, but to what is right as well. A person of integrity is not afraid to be who they are and to respect others for being who they are — that is, they are not threatened by the gifts and talents of others. They are ready to accept that people are different. They usually work well in team situations. Isaiah 56:1-3, 6-8 (or Isaiah 54:1-10) 1 Thus says the LORD: Observe what is right, do what is just; for my salvation is about to come, my justice, about to be revealed. 2 Blessed is the man who does this, the son of man who holds to it; who keeps the sabbath free from profanation, and his hand from any evildoing. 3 Let not the foreigner say, when he would join himself to the LORD, “The LORD will surely exclude me from his people.” 6 The foreigners who join themselves to the LORD, ministering to him, loving the name of the LORD, and becoming his servants — all who keep the sabbath free from profanation and hold to my covenant, 7 them I will bring to my holy mountain and make joyful in my house of prayer; their holocausts and sacrifices will be acceptable on my altar, for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples. 8 Thus says the Lord GOD, who gathers the dispersed of Israel, others will I gather to him besides those already gathered. P S A L M Psalm 67:2-3, 5, 7-8 (or Psalm 30:2, 4, 5-6, 11-12a, 13b) R: O God, let all the nations praise you! 1 [2] May God have pity on us and bless us; may he let his face shine upon us. 2 [3] So may your way be known upon earth; among all nations, your salvation. (R) 4 [5] May the nations be glad and exult because you rule the peoples in equity; the nations on the earth you guide. (R) 6 [7] The earth has yielded its fruits; God, our God, has blessed us. 7 [8] May God bless us, and may all the ends of the earth fear him! (R) G O S P E L If the Jews are truly honest in their judgment of Him, Jesus knows that they will find in His favor. Yes, His ministry as Messiah is nothing like what they were expecting, but they ought to have expected that in the first place because God is not predictable except in His love and mercy. Their stubbornness is reaching epic proportions and is about to lead them seriously astray. Jesus will not “change His tune” as He is acting according to His Father’s will; it is they who need to reassess their position. John 5:33-36 (or Luke 7:24-30) 33 Jesus said to the Jews: “You sent emissaries to John, and he testified to the truth. 34 I do not accept testimony from a human being, but I say this so that you may be saved. 35 He was a burning and shining lamp, and for a while you were content to rejoice in his light. 36 But I have testimony greater than John’s. The works that the Father gave me to accomplish, these works that I perform testify on my behalf that the Father has sent me.” my reflections t h i n k : A person of integrity is not afraid to be who they are and to respect others for being who they are. God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR Joel 1-4 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | FILIPINO CATHOLIC YOUTH AND THE CHURCH IN THE PHILIPPINES All throughout the Catholic Church in the Philippines begins today the series of Dawn Masses (or Anticipated Masses the night before), traditionally known as the Misa de Gallo and preparatory to Christmas. However, if we were to follow strictly the liturgy, the “shift to higher gear” in our Advent journey should more properly begin tomorrow still, as we begin the second part of the Advent season. In any case, also calling our attention is the National Youth Day today for the Catholic Church in the Philippines. After all, just as the Misa de Gallo is intended for the perseverance of our beloved nation in the Catholic Faith, we do recognize also the role of our Filipino Catholic youth in renewing and vivifying the Catholic Church in our country. Our scriptural readings continue to enlighten us as they, too, blend with our above-mentioned circumstances. The Gospel reinforces for us the figure of John the Baptizer as a strong and spartan prophet. And then for the First Reading, we open a new chapter from the book of the prophet Isaiah. In here is an evocative and encouraging message for the exile-weary nation of Israel. Her days as a “childless widow” are now over. God Himself will marry her and make her fruitful in an irrevocable covenant of peace. This is our hope as well for the Catholic Church. She may be embattled from every side in our present-day society. She nevertheless continues in her God-given mission of renewal and rejuvenation. Like John the Baptist and Isaiah, the Filipino Catholic youth in particular have a role to play and a contribution to make. They go forth boldly to give witness to both Church and state, to civil society and government. May God bless, strengthen and guide them. Fr. Martin Macasaet, SDB Reflection Question: How do you, as a Catholic, help the Church in witnessing about God? Fill me with the Holy Spirit, Lord, that I may be constantly inspired to bear witness to You. Blessed Raynald de Bar, pray for us. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | | Find one near you!
