| Dear Lordie, Carry the Lord in your heart this Monday!
Praying for you,

| Confession “Therefore, I did not consider myself worthy to come to you; but say the word and let my servant be healed. ” – Luke 7:7 My first-ever allergy attack was in a foreign land. This could have been triggered by an insect bite when I was outdoors. But before the trip, I had to endure a stressful situation. My client complained that I had sold him a parcel of land that was foreclosed. But I was able to resolve that case before I left. However, because of the allergy attack, the foreign doctor prescribed medicine saying that its side effects included anxiety bouts as well. I further became anxious because my husband and I were to take a tour which included a lot of travelling. When we arrived in Vancouver, I was able to hear Mass. Since we were early for Mass, I had the chance to go to confession for the first time in a foreign land. Receiving the sacrament of reconciliation had a healing effect on me. God told me in my heart that I should enjoy the blessings that He had given me. With that message, I felt rejuvenated and my anxiety disappeared. We were able to complete our tour joyfully by His grace. REFLECTION: When was the last time you heard confession? Don’t miss on God’s abounding grace, mercy and love. Lord, thank You for the forgiveness of my sins and allowing me to be reconciled with You always. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING Christian community is built around the actions of people and not just ideas. As such we have to demonstrate our willingness to live by a particular set of ideals. This requires that we look deeply into the meaning of our actions and what they say to others about who we are, what we think and believe. The Community in Corinth is not really unified — there were different classes or groups that rarely crossed over. Paul challenges them, as he would us today, to break down the barriers that set people apart. 1 Corinthians 11:17-26, 33 17 Brothers and sisters: In giving this instruction, I do not praise the fact that your meetings are doing more harm than good. 18 First of all, I hear that when you meet as a church there are divisions among you, and to a degree I believe it; 19 there have to be factions among you in order that also those who are approved among you may become known. 20 When you meet in one place, then, it is not to eat the Lord’s supper, 21 for in eating, each one goes ahead with his own supper, and one goes hungry while another gets drunk. 22 Do you not have houses in which you can eat and drink? Or do you show contempt for the church of God and make those who have nothing feel ashamed? What can I say to you? Shall I praise you? In this matter I do not praise you. 23 For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, 24 and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes. 33 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. P S A L M Psalm 40:7-8a, 8b-9, 10, 17 R: Proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes again. 6 [7] Sacrifice or oblation you wished not, but ears open to obedience you gave me. Burnt offerings or sin-offerings you sought not; 7 [8] then said I, “Behold I come.” (R) “In the written scroll it is prescribed for me, 8 [9] to do your will, O my God, is my delight, and your law is within my heart!” (R) 9 [10] I announced your justice in the vast assembly; I did not restrain my lips, as you, O LORD, know. (R) 16 [17] May all who seek you exult and be glad in you, and may those who love your salvation say ever, “The LORD be glorified.” (R) G O S P E L I find it interesting that the servant is healed at the intercession of his master. So much of faith is focused upon our individual response to God’s mercy and here we have an example of the faith of one person being instrumental in bringing healing to another. We should always be on the lookout for ways to help one another in our faith; praying for one another and for God’s graces and blessings in each other’s lives. Luke 7:1-10 1 When Jesus had finished all his words to the people, he entered Capernaum. 2 A centurion there had a slave who was ill and about to die, and he was valuable to him. 3 When he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and save the life of his slave. 4 They approached Jesus and strongly urged him to come, saying, “He deserves to have you do this for him, 5 for he loves our nation and he built the synagogue for us.” 6 And Jesus went with them, but when he was only a short distance from the house, the centurion sent friends to tell him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof. 7 Therefore, I did not consider myself worthy to come to you; but say the word and let my servant be healed. 8 For I too am a person subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come here,’ and he comes; and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 9 When Jesus heard this he was amazed at him and, turning, said to the crowd following him, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” 10 When the messengers returned to the house, they found the slave in good health. my reflections t h i n k : We should always be on the lookout for ways to help one another in our faith. _________________________________________________________ God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR Psalm 96-100 Psalm 96-100 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | Lord , I am not Worthy In one of my theology classes, I remember a seminarian asking me about the Church’s prescription that if we are aware we are in a state of sin, we must go to confession before we receive Holy Communion. He asked, “We can never be worthy no matter what we do, so why do we have to be justified by going to confession first?” He must have had in mind the centurion’s declaration of unworthiness before Jesus in the Gospel today, “Sir, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you enter my house.” Do you really think the centurion did not want Jesus to enter his house? Of course he did. Only that Jesus did not feel the need to. The centurion’s faith was enough for Jesus to grant the healing. Yes, that was a declaration of unworthiness. In fact, the Church has even adapted that declaration as a preparatory prayer that Catholics utter before receiving Holy Communion. But let us clarify. It is not a call to moral mediocrity. It is rather a challenge to perfection. If you understand it to be a call to mediocrity, then you become complacent, presumptuous and mediocre because, after all, there’s nothing you can do to make yourself worthy. But if you understand it as a call to perfection, then you become grateful, hopeful and persevering. Yes, we can never be worthy but, at least, we can strive to make ourselves less unworthy. That is the worthy attitude before the Lord in the Eucharist.Fr. Joel O. Jason Reflection Question: 1. How do you prepare yourself for your encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist? 2. Do you care that you are at least less unworthy? Lord Jesus, thank You for the underserved gift of Yourself in the Eucharist. Lead us not to complacency, presumption and mediocrity. Make us ever grateful, hopeful and persevering. Amen. St. Nectarius, pray for us. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | | 1. The FEAST is the one of the happiest places on earth. Find one near you!
