| Dear Lordie, God will never leave you. This Wednesday is no different.
Praying for you,

| IS IT TORTURE OR IS IT BLISS? But He said to them, “To the other towns also I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God, because for this purpose I have been sent.” – Luke 4:43 Fly. Preach. Fly. Preach. And inhale oxygen somewhere in between. If I can also catch a small meal between engagements, praise God. If not, a banana will do. Everywhere I go, people ask me, “How can you do all that you do?” They say my calendar is torture. No, it’s not. I love what I do. So to me, my calendar is not torture but a thrilling adventure. I do something that I learned from Olympic champions: In my mind, I visualize what I want to happen. So before each trip, I imagine that in every talk I’ll give, my audience will receive God’s love. People will be spiritually nourished. People will experience God as never before. They’ll feel so blessed, they’ll tell their friends about the experience. And it happens! Because I am doing what I believe is my mission in life, God has been pouring grace upon grace, blessing upon blessing not only upon me but upon my family and ministries as well. REFLECTION: What is that God-ordained mission that He meant for you when He created you? Dear Lord, open my heart and mind to see Your purpose for my life, and grant me the courage to do it. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING Paul talks about the nature of conversion — its beginning, growth and maturity. There is division along the lines of who the people think is the more important evangelist, as they are divided into the camps of Apollos and Paul. Paul thinks this is ridiculous and a sign of great immaturity, for the only thing that really counts is Jesus. It is Jesus who saves and the Holy Spirit who brings the growth. Both he and Apollos are mere servants of God. 1 Corinthians 3:1-9 1 Brothers and sisters, I could not talk to you as spiritual people, but as fleshly people, as infants in Christ. 2 I fed you milk, not solid food, because you were unable to take it. Indeed, you are still not able, even now, 3 for you are still of the flesh. While there is jealousy and rivalry among you, are you not of the flesh, and behaving in an ordinary human way? 4 Whenever someone says, “I belong to Paul,” and another, “I belong to Apollos,” are you not merely human? 5 What is Apollos, after all, and what is Paul? Ministers through whom you became believers, just as the Lord assigned each one. 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God caused the growth. 7 Therefore, neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who causes the growth. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters are equal, and each will receive wages in proportion to his labor. 9 For we are God’s co-workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. P S A L M Psalm 33:12-13, 14-15, 20-21 R: Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own. 12 Blessed the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he has chosen for his own inheritance. 13 From heaven the LORD looks down; he sees all mankind. (R) 14 From his fixed throne he beholds all who dwell on the earth, 15 he who fashioned the heart of each, he who knows all their works. (R) 20 Our soul waits for the LORD, who is our help and our shield, 21 for in him our hearts rejoice; in his holy name we trust. (R) G O S P E L Healing the sick is one of the signs expected to accompany the coming of the Messiah. Jesus’ life of ministry certainly fits the bill here. I wonder how well the Church lives this reality today. We are very good at caring for the sick. Many hospitals around the world are run by the Church, but do we have the faith to pray for the miracle of healing the sick? There are times when we are too hesitant, maybe lacking in faith, and fail to pray for healing when we could. Luke 4:38-44 38 After Jesus left the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon. Simon’s mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever, and they interceded with him about her. 39 He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up immediately and waited on them. 40 At sunset, all who had people sick with various diseases brought them to him. He laid his hands on each of them and cured them. 41 And demons also came out from many, shouting, “You are the Son of God.” But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak because they knew that he was the Messiah. 42 At daybreak, Jesus left and went to a deserted place. The crowds went looking for him, and when they came to him, they tried to prevent him from leaving them. 43 But he said to them, “To the other towns also I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God, because for this purpose I have been sent.” 44 And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea. my reflections think: lIt is Jesus who saves and the Holy Spirit who brings the growth. _________________________________________________________ God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR Psalm 36-40 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | Soul Food , Anyone ? A young boy approached his old wise pastor about his struggle with purity. “I’m getting frustrated, Father,” he said, “I’ve been having problems with impure thoughts for as long as I can remember.” He continued, “Sometimes I feel there are two wolves fighting within me, pulling me into different directions, one towards the good and the other towards the bad. How do I know who will win?” The pastor simply replied, “The one you are constantly feeding.” The pastor’s advice was profound yet practical. Those who live according to the flesh constantly feed the flesh to the neglect of the Spirit. Those who live according to the Spirit feed themselves with food that nourishes the soul as well. This is what Paul means in today’s first reading, when he chastises the community at Corinth for their childish ways and the constant divisions brought about by jealousy. Paul reminds them to live according to the dignity they have been given in Christ, to live in the spirit and not be men and women of the flesh. Let us note, however, that when Paul speaks of living according to the Spirit, he does not mean that the flesh is the principle of evil and is essentially opposed to the spirit. To live according to the Spirit means that the flesh is permeated by the Spirit, the flesh living in harmony and not in opposition with the Spirit. How does this happen? I once read a documentary that compared eagles with vultures. It said that eagles feed only on live things while vultures feed on dead things, mostly the decaying remains of dead animals. This is the reason why vultures do not fly high. They constantly feed on things that are dead. On the contrary, eagles soar high up to heaven. Fr. Joel O. Jason Reflection Question: 1. Do you feed yourself regularly with soul food, i.e, food that nourishes your spirit? How often do you nourish yourself with God’s Word, with prayer and with the Eucharist? 2. Have you identified the “dead” things that are present in your diet? Lord Jesus, enkindle in me a hunger for You, the Bread of Life. Give me the strength of will to eliminate the “dead” things in my diet — sin, vice and the love for inordinate pleasure — that I may soar like an eagle to the heavens. Amen.
