| Dear Lordie, Thank God for your loved ones this Sunday.
Praying for you,

| god’s special children “When you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind.” – Luke 14:13 I belong to an organization of financial professionals, which, in addition to its main thrust of being the catalyst for change and innovation in finance, is also actively involved in socially-relevant projects. One of its advocacies is to support physically-impaired children. It was through this organization that I developed a special bond with wheelchair-bound children. Supporting them became a personal advocacy for me and my husband. A couple of years ago, we brought them to Tagaytay Picnic Grove. There were almost a dozen of them, mostly in wheelchairs, but they tried not to be a burden to us, with the older ones looking after the needs of the younger ones. These children may never be able to repay us materially, but seeing how happy they were and listening to their animated stories on the trip back to their home, gave us so much joy that was worth more than receiving cash or any material thing. Indeed, these children are God’s special creatures. Bay Cabrera (baycabrera@yahoo.com) REFLECTION: Have we done good to the least of God’s brethren, knowing that whatever we do to them, we do it unto the Lord? Lord, teach us to see Your face in our less fortunate brothers and sisters, especially in the physically impaired. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING Humility is essential for success in the Kingdom of God. It is only the person who is willing to learn from God who will progress in holiness and righteousness. The arrogant and close-minded person will never profit in the Kingdom of God. A sensible and wise person will be willing to learn from those who have gone before them on the journey of faith. Let us pray that we will be numbered among them. Sirach 3:17-18, 20, 28-29 17 My child, conduct your affairs with humility, and you will be loved more than a giver of gifts. 18 Humble yourself the more, the greater you are, and you will find favor with God. 20 What is too sublime for you, seek not, into things beyond your strength search not. 28 The mind of a sage appreciates proverbs, and an attentive ear is the wise man’s joy. 29 Water quenches a flaming fire, and alms atone for sins. P S A L M Psalm 68:4-5, 6-7, 10-11 R: God, in your goodness, you have made a home for the poor. 3 [4] The just rejoice and exult before God; they are glad and rejoice. 4 [5] Sing to God, chant praise to his name, whose name is the LORD. (R) 5 [6] The father of orphans and the defender of widows is God in his holy dwelling. 6 [7] God gives a home to the forsaken; he leads forth prisoners to prosperity. (R) 9 [10] A bountiful rain you showered down, O God, upon your inheritance; you restored the land when it languished; 10 [11] your flock settled in it; in your goodness, O God, you provided it for the needy. (R) 2nd READING Faith in God and the satisfaction it will bring to our lives is beyond anything we can imagine or have experienced. We need to accept that faith in God takes us on a journey beyond our simple understanding and opens our lives to promises and realities that will transform us beyond our wildest beliefs. This is the promise of God for those who are faithful to His Word. Let us seek His will for our lives and be faithful to it to the best of our limited ability. Hebrews 12:18-19, 22-24a 18 Brothers and sisters: You have not approached that which could be touched and a blazing fire and gloomy darkness and storm 19 and a trumpet blast and a voice speaking words such that those who heard begged that no message be further addressed to them, 22 No, you have approached Mount Zion and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and countless angels in festal gathering, 23 and the assembly of the firstborn enrolled in heaven, and God the judge of all, and the spirits of the just made perfect, 24 and Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and the sprinkled blood that speaks more eloquently than that of Abel. G O S P E L Again, Jesus teaches His disciples that humility is essential to the life of discipleship. We cannot expect to progress in the life of holiness without placing them in the merciful hands of God. Jesus was sent not to condemn us but in order that we might have life to the full. Luke 14:1, 7-14 1 On a sabbath Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there were observing him carefully. 7 He told a parable to those who had been invited, noticing how they were choosing the places of honor at the table. 8 “When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not recline at table in the place of honor. A more distinguished guest than you may have been invited by him, 9 and the host who invited both of you may approach you and say, ‘Give your place to this man,’ and then you would proceed with embarrassment to take the lowest place. 10 Rather, when you are invited, go and take the lowest place so that when the host comes to you he may say, ‘My friend, move up to a higher position.’ Then you will enjoy the esteem of your companions at the table. 11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” 12 Then he said to the host who invited him, “When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back and you have repayment. 13 Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; 14 blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” my reflections t h i n k : Faith in God and the satisfaction it will bring to our lives is beyond anything we can imagine or have experienced. _________________________________________________________ God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR Psalm 21-25 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | HUMBLE THYSELF One of my fondest memories is that of having Christmas lunch with the brothers in Australia. It is a tradition within our community that we open our home to those who are less fortunate and to share Christmas with them. It is always a joyful occasion, with lots of food, laughter and celebration. There are many characters that we would invite, including those whom you would rather pass by in the street. But these simple and humble folk make the feast all the more joyous. Jesus teaches us today how we are to act at the table when we are invited to a party — to take the lowest place, to sit and eat with the less fortunate. He teaches us the way of hospitality, which is a common theme flowing through the Gospel of Luke. Jesus also teaches us about the grace of humility which seems to have vanished into thin air these days. St. Francis of Assisi taught that humility is knowing who God is and knowing who I am. Humility is not a matter of being humiliated. It is a matter of taking the lower place in the sight of God and others. Jesus humbled himself, as St. Paul tells us, and it was God who raised Him to be Leader and Savior, the perfector of our faith. What great reward there is in being humble. It doesn’t hurt to be humble. “Humble yourself before the Lord and He will draw near to you; Cast your worries upon Him because He is looking after you” (1 Peter 5:6). Fr. Brian Steele, MGL Reflection Question: Where do I see pride operating in my life? Can I choose to be humble? Lord, give me right faith, certain hope and perfect charity. Amen. (St. Francis of Assisi) St. Sabina, pray for us. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | | 1. The FEAST is the one of the happiest places on earth. Find one near you!
