Praying for you,

| ALWAYS BE READY “Therefore stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.” – Matthew 24:42 When the Department of Health came out with its first announcement that a student from one of the prominent universities was positive with influenza A(H1N1), I was sent to go to that school to cover. As a TV reporter, I had to get interviews from the other students. I maintained my distance, no skin contact. I did the interviews in the open areas to make sure there was enough ventilation as the virus was airborne. The students were scared and paranoid. After the coverage, some people were scared . . . of me! Just because I covered that story, it didn’t mean I was already infected nor was there any high probability of getting infected. Because of fear, people took steps and prepared. I thought about what should we be preparing for ultimately. Yes, we have to do our part to protect ourselves from the virus, but we don’t know when our time on earth will be up. It could be through an accident, who knows. My sister’s friend was healthy, but she fell off a building and it was an untimely death. Anytime the Lord decides to take me, I hope I will always be ready.Carlo F. Lorenzo (cflorenzo@ gmanetwork.com) REFLECTION: “If I knew I only had one day left to live, how will I spend it? How do I know I’m going to heaven?” Holy Spirit, teach me how to prepare all aspects of my life for the Second Coming. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING Paul is a clever man — he first affirms the Corinthian community and builds them up before addressing the problems he has with them. This is an important principle when discipling others — we have to build up our relationship with the disciple so we can speak wisdom into his or her life. This is not manipulation but the essence of all relationships and the basis of trust in any community setting. 1 Corinthians 1:1-9 1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, 2 to the church of God that is in Corinth, to you who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be holy, with all those everywhere who call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours. 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4 I give thanks to my God always on your account for the grace of God bestowed on you in Christ Jesus, 5 that in him you were enriched in every way, with all discourse and all knowledge, 6 as the testimony to Christ was confirmed among you, 7 so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift as you wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ. 8 He will keep you firm to the end, irreproachable on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, and by him you were called to fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. P S A L M Psalm 145:2-3, 4-5, 6-7 R: I will praise your name for ever, Lord. 2 Every day will I bless you, and I will praise your name forever and ever. 3 Great is the LORD and highly to be praised; his greatness is unsearchable. (R) 4 Generation after generation praises your works and proclaims your might. 5 They speak of the splendour of your glorious majesty and tell of your wondrous works. (R) 6 They discourse of the power of your terrible deeds and declare your greatness. 7 They publish the fame of your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your justice. (R) G O S P E L We should be ready for Jesus to return tomorrow. And if that is what we believe, then every day is a potential “end of the world” day. What matters here is that we should not fear the end of the world but welcome it. For those who are faithful to God it means that eternity with Him in heaven is about to become a reality. Matthew 24:42-51 42 Jesus said to his disciples: “Stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come. 43 Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let his house be broken into. 44 So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come. 45 “Who, then, is the faithful and prudent servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household to distribute to them their food at the proper time? 46 Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so. 47 Amen, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property. 48 But if that wicked servant says to himself, ‘My master is long delayed,’ 49 and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eat and drink with drunkards, 50 the servant’s master will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour 51 and will punish him severely and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.” my reflections think: Every day is a potential “end of the world” day. _________________________________________________________ God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR Psalm 6-10 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | GOD IS FAITHFUL In this day and age of advanced communications, we tend to lose the personal touch of a handwritten letter. Even when I write letters to folks back home, I type it in my computer. Writing a letter allows one to share and express himself to the other in a more personal way. Isn’t it a joy to receive letter in the mail? A brother priest of mine receives letters from his mother every month without fail, still written by hand with the personal touch. In the New Testament, we have a series of letters written by Paul, the great missionary and apostle to the Gentiles. He writes very personally, expressing his love and concern for the churches. These letters are read aloud as the people gathered to hear the news from their friend. Sometimes the letters are full of challenges. These letters make good reading and prayerful reflection even today. The letter in today’s first reading is for the people of Corinth. Corinth was a busy trading town and very prone to the Greek culture. Along with this came the pagan superstitions and cultic practices prevalent in an ancient culture. Paul is writing this letter, in particular, to some of the issues that needed attention in Corinth. However, before he challenges them, he writes to remind the people that they are a new people of God. We are a people called by God, consecrated in Jesus Christ, a holy people set apart. We all have been baptized into this community, which we call church, and all of us are to live in the grace of God. I find great comfort in the words of Paul — that Christ will strengthen us to the end. We need that strengthening, or in other words, confirmation. We have everything going against us in the world! Hence, it is vitally important that we belong to a community, and find our strength in a community. In these few verses, Paul is asserting that God is faithful. Heaven knows how unfaithful we are, but God is faithful!Fr. Brian Steele, MGL Reflection Question: Reflect on these words of Scripture: God is faithful. Make a list of the times God has been faithful to you. Ask Him to remind you where He has been faithful — you may have forgotten! Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness, even if at times I am unfaithful. Amen. St. Bregwin, pray for us. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | | 1.
