| Dear Lordie, Be inspired with His message to you this Saturday!
Praying for you,

| beauty of reconciliation “If you do not repent, you will all perish as they did.” – Luke 13:3 I was in the hospital for five days because of severe diarrhea. I had the scare of my life when I became dehydrated despite the intravenous fluid and the other medications that I was taking. My wife and I had lost count on how many times I was going back and forth to the bathroom for three straight days. I was totally weak from dehydration and could hardly move. That was the very first time I felt afraid to die. I thought I couldn’t leave my family behind. But it was also during those scary times that I had the chance to commune with God. It was then that I realized that I had been busy serving the Lord and attending to other secular concerns yet neglected my regular personal time with Him. My friend Omy Romero confirmed this message when he sent me a text during my hospital stay. He asked me to seek the Lord’s purpose for me and discern what He wanted me to do. “To be still” and to commune with Him! I repented and asked forgiveness for my shortcomings and for my sins. Oh, how great it is to be in the loving embrace of our God. This is the beauty of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Jesus is always there waiting for us.Hermie Morelos (hrm9224@yahoo.com) REFLECTION: “Seven days without God makes one weak.” (Unknown) Lord Jesus, please remind me that when I’m at my busiest, it’s then that I need You the most. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING The gifts of the members of the Body of Christ are many and varied. Alone we do not have all the bases covered so to speak; together we do. It does not take a lot of brains or time to realize that together we will be far more successful in achieving the goals that God puts before us than if we are alone. Ephesians 4:7-16 7 Brothers and sisters: Grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8 Therefore, it says: “He ascended on high and took prisoners captive; he gave gifts to men.” 9 What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended into the lower regions of the earth? 10 The one who descended is also the one who ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things. 11 And he gave some as apostles, others as prophets, others as evangelists, others as pastors and teachers, 12 to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the extent of the full stature of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be infants, tossed by waves and swept along by every wind of teaching arising from human trickery, from their cunning in the interests of deceitful scheming. 15 Rather, living the truth in love, we should grow in every way into him who is the head, Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, with the proper functioning of each part, brings about the body’s growth and builds itself up in love. P S A L M Psalm 122:1-2, 3-4ab, 4cd-5 R: Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord. 1 I rejoiced because they said to me, “We will go up to the house of the LORD.” 2 And now we have set foot within your gates, O Jerusalem. (R) 3 Jerusalem, built as a city with compact unity. 4 To it the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD. (R) According to the decree for Israel, to give thanks to the name of the LORD. 5 In it are set up judgment seats, seats for the house of David. (R) G O S P E L Who is the greatest sinner ever? The answer to this question is irrelevant. What matters is that we all stand in need of the gift of redemption. We all must come to repentance and surrender our lives to the work of the Holy Spirit. Whether I have one sin or 10 sins the ultimate need is the same: conversion. Yes, conversion from one sin is probably easier than that from 10, depending on the sins of course, but it is still the same ultimate path that we all have to walk. Luke 13:1-9 1 Some people told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with the blood of their sacrifices. 2 He said to them in reply, “Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way they were greater sinners than all other Galileans? 3 By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did! 4 Or those eighteen people who were killed when the tower at Siloam fell on them — do you think they were more guilty than everyone else who lived in Jerusalem? 5 By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!” 6 And he told them this parable: “There once was a person who had a fig tree planted in his orchard, and when he came in search of fruit on it but found none, 7 he said to the gardener, ‘For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree but have found none. So cut it down. Why should it exhaust the soil?’ 8 He said to him in reply, ‘Sir, leave it for this year also, and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it; 9 it may bear fruit in the future. If not you can cut it down.’ ” my reflections t h i n k : We all stand in need of the gift of redemption. _________________________________________________________ God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR Isaiah 1-4 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | The First Right Step Sometimes we tend to cover our faults by pointing out others’ mistakes. We think we can evade judgment that way and that, by blaming others, our mistakes will disappear. But sooner or later we will have to answer for them. The Gospel today exposes the people’s effort to put the blame on the Galileans. To expose the exposers, Jesus made mention of the 18 who died when the tower of Siloam fell on them. He told the people that the manner of death was not necessarily a measure of those people’s guilt. Jesus was leading them to the essence of repentance as the key to change and holiness, and to not dwell on the sorry fate that befell those who died. Focusing on such a manner of death can temper one’s guilt and make him repent. But an unrepentant person who does not acknowledge his sin has it worse than those who suffered a harsh death. Jesus was still dealing here with the hard-headedness and hard-heartedness of the people. How could the son of a carpenter speak such words that threatened them? He came from Nazareth where nothing good was expected. He could not be the Messiah. And yet, He made sense; He penetrated their souls. They could not deny the truth of His words. They thought that way the whole time they interacted with Jesus. He was an enigma to them. But Jesus knew this. That is why He tried to enlighten them, giving them opportunities to accept Him. He cited situations that were familiar to them like the parable of the fig tree that expresses the hope of Jesus for the people. He did not believe that Israel would totally reject Him. He was right. They may have succeeded in crucifying Him and putting Him to death, but through His apostles, the Christian faith was born. The grace of salvation has already been merited to us by Jesus. But we need to accept that grace by being worthy of it. We can start by accepting our weaknesses and by walking the road of repentance. We must first decide to change. The Prodigal Son, Zacchaeus, Matthew, Peter and others who recognized their sins and their need to be one again with God all made the first right step to conversion — repentance. Fr. Benny Tuazon Reflection Question: Do you wait for others to change before you do? Do you set others as your standard or do you go by God’s standards? Give me a contrite heart, O God.
