| HAVE YOU SEEN JESUS ? She turned round and saw Jesus standing there, though she did not realize that it was Jesus. – John 20:14 A week ago, a chat message popped up on my computer that read, “Have you ever seen Jesus?” It was from a friend who said he met people who claimed to have heard and seen Jesus. I have never seen His physical being or heard His actual voice, but I dare to say that I have met Him. He comes to me in the form of friends and family, sharing happiness and joy. He shows me His visage in the beauty of nature, even in the violence of the storms. He expresses his vulnerability through the needy, evoking my compassion and demanding my charity. He embraces me when I’m distressed, by flooding my soul with lasting peace that calms and heals my hurts. God is always calling us to Himself, if we only know how to listen. He reveals His face every day, and is only waiting for us to turn to Him when He calls our name. May we be sensitive to His voice and respond gladly when He calls. Cecil Lim (cez_lim@yahoo.com) REFLECTION: “When you come to know the Father, not a thing will be the same. You will know the peace of Jesus, when you hear Him call your name.” (Marilyn Ferguson) Lord, help me recognize Your face and hear Your voice. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | COMPANION | 1st READING in one year The Gospel has the power to cut us “to the heart,” meaning that it is capable of addressing the heart of the matter in question. Each of us has areas of our lives that need deeeper conversion – perhaps there are even areas that are yet to be submitted to the power of the Gospel! Whatever may be the case, God has not yet finished His work in us. It is a faith imperative that we willingly submit our lives to the grace of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit of truth, in all that we do. Acts 2:36-41 36 On the day of Pentecost, Peter said to the Jewish people, “Let the whole house of Israel know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.” 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and they asked Peter and the other apostles, “What are we to do, my brothers?” 38 Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is made to you and to your children and to all those far off, whomever the Lord our God will call.” 40 He testified with many other arguments, and was exhorting them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand persons were added that day. P S A L M Psalms 33:4-5, 18-19, 20, 22 R: The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. 4 Upright is the word of the LORD, and all his works are trustworthy. 5 He loves justice and right; of the kindness of the LORD the earth is full. (R) 18 See, the eyes of the LORD are upon those who fear him, upon those who hope for his kindness, 19 to deliver them from death and preserve them in spite of famine. (R) 20 Our soul waits for the LORD, who is our help and our shield. 22 May your kindness, O LORD, be upon us who have put our hope in you. (R) G O S P E L In the beginning an essential aspect of the Gospel proclamation is the claim to having been able to “see the Lord.” This reality does not end just because physical sightings of Jesus are now over because He has ascended into heaven. We still see Jesus through the eyes of faith and are just as capable of speaking the truth in saying that we have seen Jesus. Faith, too, is a way of knowing – it is virtually a sixth sense! We should never underestimate the capacity of our faith to instill knowledge in our minds and hearts. VERSE BEFORE THE GOSPEL This is the day the Lord has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it. John 20:11-18 11 Mary Magdalene stayed outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet where the Body of Jesus had been. 13 And they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken my Lord, and I don’t know where they laid him.” 14 When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there, but did not know it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?” She thought it was the gardener and said to him, “Sir, if you carried him away, tell me where you laid him, and I will take him.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni,” which means Teacher. 17 Jesus said to her, “Stop holding on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am going to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ” 18 Mary of Magdala went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and what he told her. my reflections t h i n k : We should never underestimate the capacity of our faith to instill knowledge in our minds and hearts. God’s special verse/thought for me today________________ _________________________________________________________ T O D A Y ’ S BLESSING LIST Thank You Lord for: ____________________________________ _______________________________________________________ READ THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR 2 Chronicles 5-6 2 Chronicles 5-6 | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | SABBATH | CALLED BY NAME Mary is weeping. The body of Jesus has been taken away and she does not know where it is. She was hoping that she would see the body once more. Her hopes were shattered. Her dreams vanished. In her sadness, she became blind to the presence of Jesus. She thinks He is the gardener. Then something amazing happens. Immediately, fear is dispelled, dreams are fulfilled and hope is once again made strong. Jesus calls her by that familiar name — Mary. Hearing His voice and seeing Him again must have overwhelmed her heart. Jesus, the Risen Savior, speaks her name. As she seeks to hold on to Him, Jesus reminds her that she must tell the news to the others. Mary announces to the followers that she had seen the Lord. We, too, must pray for the same grace that we hear the Risen Lord call out our name. We, too, must announce with conviction that we have seen the Lord. We, too, have heard Him call out our name. He is the loving and merciful Lord. He is the good Shepherd who knows each of us by name. The sheep hear His voice and follow Him. If Jesus were to reveal Himself to you in person, how would you address Him? For Mary, it was Teacher, the familiar name she knew. Who is the risen Lord for you? Ask Him to reveal Himself as Lord and Savior. Open your eyes and see Him in those you meet, in the daily events of your life. He is willing to reveal Himself to you if only you ask Him and call upon His name, the only name in which we find healing, hope, forgiveness of sin and salvation. Fr. Brian Steele, MGL Reflection Question: Hear Jesus call you by name. Lord, let me hear You calling out my name. Remove my blindness that I may see You as Lord, Savior, Redeemer, Friend and the Good Shepherd. Amen. St. Franca Visalta, pray for us. | Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top | | Find one near you!
